Since last time, we have enjoyed the Euros and the Olympics, and we have endured a general election, Some of my questions are inspired by these topics.

  1. Q. Who was the first ever labour prime minister?
    A. Ramsay MacDonald. Congratulations on your longevity if you remember him in your lifetime!
  2. Q. How many labour prime ministers have there been?
    A. Seven – MacDonald, Atlee, Wilson, Callaghan, Blair, Brown and Starmer.
  3. Q. Which constituency had the smallest majority in the recent general election?
    A. Hendon was won by the Labour candidate, David Pinto-Duschinsky, with a majority of 15 votes! Your vote really does count, sometimes!
  4. Q. For which country was the fastest ever goal scored in the Euros football tournament?
    A. Albania - Nedim Bajrami scored after just 23 seconds against Italy
  5. Q. Which country received the most red cards at the Euros?
    A. Czechia with two red cards. They also received 13 yellow cards, despite playing only three games and coming bottom of their group!
  6. Q. Which non-hosting country won the Euros and in which year, despite not qualifying in the first place?
    A. Denmark in 1992. They were invited at about two weeks’ notice to enter after Yugoslavia was expelled because of events in the Balkans.
  7. Q. What is the connection between the final of the Euros this year and the 1936 Summer Olympic Games?
    A. Both were played at the same stadium in Berlin built for Hitler’s Olympics at which Jesse Owens won four gold medals. The stadium has, of course, been modernised since those days, and some of the symbols of the Nazis removed, but not all.

    A. Letsile Tebogo for Botswana beating the much fancied Noah Lyles

    A.  Julien Alfred for St Lucia
